When we grow older, we realise the true value of female friendship. In our teenage years or when we are in college, we think everyone has friends, and so do we, and it’s nothing special. But once you start building your career, you understand how this female friendship truly helps you.
There are certain matters that we can’t share with our family, or even if we do, we are not sure if they will understand.
As a girl who has lived in 3 to 4 different cities for her education and career, I place the women in my life above everything else. These women not only include my college friends or colleagues, but also my sister, my cousins, my flatmates, and the girls supporting my business. I can freely talk to them and ask for their opinions. I know they will not judge me. And above that, I have a choice of what matter to discuss with whom! I can share my love life problems with my flatmates, career problems with my working cousin, and family dramas with my sister and bhabhi! Isn’t this such a privilege!! I am blessed, and I truly thank God for giving me all these lovely ladies.
This was my motivation behind naming my clothing brand GIGI. Pronounced as JIJI, GIGI stands for “girl’s girl” — a girl who takes a stand for another girl, supports her, and motivates her. And about the pronunciation, JIJI means sister in many Indian languages, so it naturally gives it a beautiful meaning.
By leaving my corporate journey behind, I decided to start my own business, and these wonderful women around me were my true inspiration. I want all the girls out there to realise the value of female friendship and nurture it. I know we are all busy in our lives — chasing our dreams, fulfilling duties, and meeting deadlines — but this is not everything! I want my fellow GIGIs to take out time for themselves and embrace their true selves. Take care of yourselves, meet your gigis, gossip, share everything openly with them, and live life to the fullest!!
It’s been a year since I started GIGI. I have gone through many challenges and am still facing many issues. Being a businesswoman is not an easy task. But I am glad that I have the freedom to take decisions and shape GIGI the way I want. I am happy to have chosen this path and will continue to work hard to achieve all the goals I have set, with the help and blessings of my fellow gigis.
